Prairie Lake Elementary Wins State Award

2017 State Winners!
Posted on 05/05/2017
Congratulations to NEHS 2017 State Winners!

Students who excel academically and model exceptional responsibility can be selected as members of the Prairie Lake’s National Elementary Honor Society chapter. Membership provides an outstanding means to prepare and shape students for their middle level and high school experiences.  To be eligible, students in grades 4 & 5 must meet the membership requirement of a cumulative GPA of a 3.75 for the year they are eligible. They will have an opportunity to complete an application form detailing other accomplishments and attributes. Membership is based on the four pillars of NEHS:  Scholarship, Responsibility, Service and Leadership. Students who accept membership and are inducted into the chapter should be aware of the time and commitment involved with this honor. For example, there may be chapter meetings and students are expected to complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service for the school year. Members also must participate in chapter service projects to benefit the school and community.  At Prairie Lake Elementary, we host 4 service projects, a school, local, national and international, with one scheduled per 9 week period.  In our inaugural year, our service project, Light the Path to Literacy, which collected and distributed books, book lights, and snacks for displaced or homeless children in the school and community, earned top recognition in the State of Florida.  The chapter was awarded first place for Celebrate Literacy Week 2017, hosted by the First Lady of Florida, Ann Scott in Tallahassee.  The school took home $1000 to further the reach of service in the community.
